The picturesque streets of Malta’s old capital are lined with restaurants, bars, cafes and boutiques. These streets are also filled with jewellery merchants, you can find beautiful pieces, gold, precious stones, medallions and religious symbols aligning with the string catholic influence in the country.

Santa Lucia (Saint Lucia) street and Triq San Gwann are some of the main streets, visit stores Jos Debono, Ave Maria Jewellery, Frank Zampa Jewellery. I bought a beautiful pair hoops made in the adjoining workshop at St. Elmo’s Fire Jewellery shop. They also have a strong collection of the lacework metal jewellery, traditional craft. You will find lots of religious symbols, medallions or amulets like the cornicello. This is like a gold horn or chilli shape charm that has a special meaning in Malta and the south of Italy, offering protection. I bought a cornicello from Frank Zampa, pictured in the photo. It's a beautiful family-owned business through the generations, and Frank himself still comes to work early each morning, with his son keeping the legacy alive.
